Lovely violin playing, and a great mix of genres! (Aug 6, 2010)
Reviewer:Amanda Sarah Nemtanu mixes many genres, from traditional Hungarian to modern French to Ethiopian popular styles, on this very interesting recording. Here we find pieces transcribed for unexpected instruments, such as the lutheal. These pieces are inspired by the mystic and rustic gypsy cultures, and as a result, the recording carries hints of melancholic and triumphant moods throughout.

The Czardas by Monti is excellently performed. Nemtanu draws a wonderfully heartfelt quality from her violin, and the ensemble gels together even through difficult tempo changes. In fact, the instruments seem to be connected as they change tempi through the entire recording. Nemtanu is very sensitive, accessing numerous “voices” and feelings from her violin. With musicianship like this, who needs words?
This is a lovely CD which will be played often in my home! (read more)
