Quite a thorough overview of a whopping 1300-year history of literary history with appropriate excerpts from primary texts, dramatised by actors to give you the feel of the particular epoch. By only two criticisms: recording levels are too low to drown out traffic when you listen to it, and there is no printed index in the box itself. Covers all literary forms (plays, poems, novels, essays and... Quite a thorough overview of a whopping 1300-year history of literary history with appropriate excerpts from primary texts, dramatised by actors to give you the feel of the particular epoch. By only two criticisms: recording levels are too low to drown out traffic when you listen to it, and there is no printed index in the box itself. Covers all literary forms (plays, poems, novels, essays and other forms of writing). It would be great if we could have a follow-up for contemporary world literature in English - because that is where the series ends off. (read more)
