Rued Langgaard became the enfant terrible of his generation in Danish music. He had already composed his first orchestral works by the age of 14, and two years later he finished his first version of his gigantic first symphony. In Denmark he was consistently ignored because the school of Carl Nielsen disliked his style of composition. He wrote about 400 works but heard very few of them performed.
