Hänssler CLASSIC is one of the major independent German classical music
labels, with more than 600 CD and DVD titles in its catalog. The Hänssler
CLASSIC catalog features the exclusive recordings of world-renowned
conductor, Helmuth Rilling—including the 172 CD Edition Bachakademie. In
addition to featuring a wide variety of high-quality choral music recordings,
Hänssler CLASSIC is a showcase label for rare repertoire, world premieres,
newly discovered masterpieces and up-and-coming young artists. Hänssler
CLASSIC produces, in cooperation with SWR Radio (Southwest German
Radio), the critically acclaimed “SWRmusic” recordings presenting the full
spectrum of musical art: historic performances, world premieres, and world
class soloists.
Featured artists of yesterday and today include Schuricht, Norrington,
Holliger, Gielen, the SWR Vocal Ensemble and many more. Throughout its
history, Hänssler CLASSIC has received nearly every major international
award (Echo 2000, Grand Prix du Disc, The Japanese Record Geijutsu, etc.)
including the Cannes Classical Awards “Label of the Year” in 2000 and a
GRAMMY® Award.
Hänssler CLASSIC continues an aggressive release schedule with 50-60
new productions per year. The Hänssler CLASSIC catalog has continued to
expand into the audiophile market with SACD Hybrid recordings including
the World Premiere recording of Bach’s B Minor Mass in Super Audio and the
Gurre-Lieder with Michael Gielen. Other featured artists are Gerhard Oppitz,
Thomas Fey, Jenny Lin, Petronel Malan and the Echo-Award winners Johannes
Moser, Christian Tetzlaff and Joachim Held. A major project is the innovative
Digital Bach-Edition for the Apple iPod Classic,® for which Hänssler CLASSIC
was awarded the German Echo Award for innovation in classical music.
