Story: In an open-type British prison two inmates, Colin and Fergus, find they have a knack for growing flowers. Their talents are recognized by leading garden authority Georgina Woodhouse, who encourages them to enter the very posh Hampton Court Palace Flower show.

Her children, Anne and Nicholas, are ill and must be kept away from sunlight. Grace takes on some servants to help her, but she soon discovers there is something odd about the house.

Story: A young Russian girl plans to emigrate to America where her father is already, but she ends up in England where she is adopted and brought up by an English family. Over the years her talent for singing and dancing are recognized and she makes friends with a fellow Russian called Lola, falls in love with Cesar, a gypsy, and manages to stay well clear of an opera singer called Dante Domino who has all the traditional bad traits of an Italian operatic tenor and more.

Music on this CD: 'Dido's Lament' from Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell.

Additional music: This is a film rich in music, containing apart from the Purcell, 'Di quella pira' from Giuseppe Verdi's Il trovatore, 'Je crois entendre encore' from The Pearl Fishers by Georges Bizet and 'E lucevan le stelle' from Tosca by Giacomo Puccini.

Story: Donald P. Sinclair is the owner of the positively swankiest casino in Las Vegas and he just has to come up with something new to please his blase customers. He hits on the idea of letting six teams off on the trail of $2 million in a locker hundreds of miles away and having his patrons bet on who will be there first to claim the money.

Music on this CD: 'In the Hall of the Mountain King' from Peer Gynt by Edvard Grieg.

Additional music: The soundtrack also features the 'Drinking Song' from Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata.

Same music - other movies: The Grieg was used to great advantage by director Fritz Lang in M (1931) as the tune the child molester (brilliantly played by Peter Lorre) whistled before he struck.

Story: This movie, like Brassed Off, plays against the background of the 1984 miners' strike. Young Billy Elliot, whose father and brother are on strike, hates training to become a boxer, as his father wants him to, but, to his own great surprise, he discovers he wants to take up ballet dancing. His father will not hear of it but, supported by a local teacher, Mrs. Wilkinson, he finally gets his way.

Music: Heard at the end of the film is the 'Swan Theme' from Pyotr Tchaikovsky's ballet Swan Lake.

Story: During WWII, in 1941 when the Italians, then allies of Germany, invade a small Greek island, an Italian officer, Captain Corelli, tries to live with the inhabitants rather than master them. Music is important to him and he arranges various musical festivities. He also falls in love with the daughter of a local doctor, whose fiance is a member of the resistance. But the idyllic life on the island is disrupted. Italy surrenders to the Allies and changes sides in the war. German troops invade the island and wreak terrible revenge on Greeks and Italians alike.

Music on this CD: The Duke's famous aria 'La donna � mobile' from Giuseppe Verdi�s Rigoletto.

Additional music: Also heard are the 'Anvil Chorus' from the same composer's Il trovatore and 'O mio babbino caro' from Gianni Schicchi by Giacomo Puccini, the latter sung by Nicolas Cage!

Story: A prosperous Cuban coffee exporter, Luis Vargas, places an ad for a US wife and gets a reply from Julia Russell who sends him her photo. But when she arrives she is much lovelier than in the photo, which she explains by saying she did not want him to take her for her looks only. They get married but when she has access to all Vargas' bank accounts, things start to happen to indicate that all is not what it should be ...

Music: 'Von fremden Landern und Menschen' (Of Foreign Lands and People) featured here is the first piece in a collection of piano pieces by Robert Schumann, called Kinderszenen (Scenes with Children), which also includes the famous 'Traumerei'.

Story: Viktor Taransky is a used-to-be-great director who is now down on his luck. He has put everything into his latest project 'Sunrise, Sunset', only to have his leading actress walk out on him. All seems lost until computer genius Hank Aleno comes along. He comes up with a way of dispensing with temperamental actresses and having one which will follow your every whim. Too good to be true?

Music on this CD: 'Pie Jesu' from Requiem by Gabriel Faure. The recording on this CD is the one used in the movie.

Additional music: Also heard are 'In paradisum' from the same work and Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber.

Story: Based on a the novel by Edith Wharton from 1905, this movie plays against the background of New York at the turn of the twentieth century and tells the story of a socialite's gradual but relentless decline. Lily Bart would seem to have everything going for her, but she keeps accumulating gambling debts and treats all suitors with complete disinterest. She is disinherited, subjected to slander, and joins the working class. Gradually she succumbs to drug addiction.

Music on this CD: The Minuet from the 'Lark Quartet' (String Quartet Op. 64, No. 5) by Joseph Haydn.

Additional music: Also heard are the Oboe Concerto by Alessandro Marcello, String Quartet No. 2 by Alexander Borodin, and several items from Cos� fan tutte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, including the Overture and the lovely Terzetto, 'Soave sia il vento'.

Story: Charlie is a severe case of split personality. His usual self is mild-mannered and friendly but when harassed his other self takes over and he becomes aggressive and unpredictable. When on a routine assignment returning an alleged fugitive, Irene P. Waters, to New York, both of his personalities fall in love with her, when they are on the run from crooked police officers.

Music: The well-known 'Wedding March' from Felix Mendelssohn's incidental music to A Midsummer Nights's Dream by William Shakespeare.

Story: Xander 'XXX' Cage is a notorious adventurer with a great deal on his conscience whom the authorities have not been able to nail. But now they have come up with proof and he is offered work with NSA Agent Gibbons in exchage for a term in prison. He is to infiltrate a top Russian crime ring planning the destruction of the world. Several ordinary agents have tried that before, but without success.

He is discovered and has to leave Italy for America, where one of his former patients, the evil Mason Verger, is lusting for revenge. But Agent Clarice Starling (the one person Hannibal cares for) will do anything to prevent Verger from having his evil way.
