Spanning almost one hundred years of music, this disc traces major Flemish symphonic works from the father figure, Peter Benoit, to the present part of the 20th century. Using folk-song as his inspiration, Benoit created a new nationalism in their compositions. Based on the mainstream European Romantic school of writing, he was to pass this readily accessible music to his pupil, Lodewijk Mortelmans, who in turn influenced the output of the distinguished composer and conductor, Lodewijk de Vocht.
