His earlier pieces radiate the classical Viennese style, where as the later quartets are much more dramatic, romantic, and full of Weltschmerz.; Performing these works is The German Diogenes Quartet. The ensemble has been exploring Schubert’s quartets more deeply for the last few years. Producer Christian Starke has provided outstanding liner notes for this release.
